Day 17 – Favorite miniseries:

This is the first miniseries I really remember looking forward to and being desperate to watch, the commercials looked so intriguing, and it didn't disappoint! I thought it was very well done, I love the opening especially with the beautiful, haunting music and the images and voice-over. The cast was great as well, with special shout-outs to Angelica Huston as Vivian and Michael Vartan (*drool*) as Lancelot...it was rather different from the book, it's true, but not necessarily worse--just a different animal, equally good and worthy. Perhaps it's because I saw the miniseries before the book, but I love both works, and prefer some things in the miniseries and some things in the book. In any case, not only did I love the miniseries in of itself, but it also lead me to read the book, which is wonderful and one of my favorites! <3333

Also, I had been interested in Arthurian legend somewhat before, after reading I am Mordred by Nancy Springer, but I think this is the miniseries that really ignited my passion for it. It is also responsible for my especial interest in Morgan(a) le Fay, and how she came to be my favorite character in the legend. :) After seeing this miniseries I went looking for more about her and about Arthurian legend in general, and even today this is my favorite version of the legend, my "personal Arthurian canon" if you will--I like that it maintains the magic and such, but within a historically realistic background/context (I'm history!girl, what can I say?). And it's the only work that has actually made me ship siblings before, more so in the book than in the miniseries though.  I even got this icon from it, I like the miniseries so much...

A close runner up for this one was the Colin Firth version of Pride & Prejudice though, talk about a faithful adaptation! And Colin Firth is THE Mr. Darcy, accept no lame Matthew McFadden substitutes! :p I've watched this one a bunch of times, like MoA, one of my friends and I would often watch it as a "break" from studying every 15 minutes in high school...xD

Any other Merlin fans seen it?  I'd highly recommend it if you haven't! :)

LOVE your header. I want an Armor header <3

I liked this series. I've always loved Morgan le Fay, too. When I was in fourth grade, my teacher gave me a book about her. I'd loved her before that, too.

Have you read The Road to Avalon? I actually liked it better than Mists. It's my favorite so far, and VERY Armor friendly.

ETA: LOVE THE SONG CHOICE! I've always been a Loreena McKennitt fan because my mom played her a lot. But most people haven't even heard of her! I went to her concert a few years ago and it was lovely.

Thanks! :D I just changed it today, it's from a gorgeous wallpaper by the amazing and ridiculously talented glenien ! (I also have it as my cellphone background, lol). My last AMor header was also from her work. I would recommend checking her out if you want a AMor header yourself! :)

No I have not, but I have heard it's a great book (and great for AMor too)! ;) I'll have to check it out sometime....I have so much reading to do, so little time though! Summer is nearly over and I haven't finished any books...too much TV and internet atm. O_o

Really? I feel like she's a well known enough name...I picked the song because it's like the best known piece from this miniseries (so memorable and lovely!), but I also really love "The Mummer's Dance" by her...a concert sounds awesome, nice! :)

(Edit: Sorry my last comment wouldn't space correctly for some reason...:s)

This DOES sound interesting... I don't suppose you know where I could download it (to watch after True Blood, ha ha)? *is hopeful*

You know, I just might...I remember someone posting on herchampion a link to a masterpost of Arthurian resources, with DLs of the book and the movie...I think I memoried it, I'll look it up when I get home! :)

I actually just bought the DVD at last from Amazon.com with my giftcard (along with a used copy of "I am Mary Tudor"), which was $8.99 plus shipping. I had a crappy VHS copy I taped off TV when it first aired, but I'm happy to finally have a decent copy! :D

Oh, you're awesome! That would be great if you don't mind... :o)

Ah - have you read "I am Mary Tudor" yet??

Okay I looked it up, and it seems that in the entry I memoried, the person said that they would post an entry in the herchampion comm with the movie links--so perhaps you can look there? :s. Hopefully it's tagged...or maybe I can give you the username of the person? I'd have to look that up again...

And lol no, I only just ordered it over the weekend, and it's probably not even going to arrive (accor. to the estimates) until after I am gone to Spain--but whatever, I wasn't going to bring it anyway, I just wanted a copy for the future...

Now after reading your entry I can't wait to watch it even more! :D The soundtrack hounts me for a few months now but I promised myself to watch it only after I will read the book and I found it only some time ago. Now I'm currently in the second part and I love it <3. I also can't help but ship Arthur/Morgaine so far(although I also started to like Uther/Igraine and for a short while Morgaine/Lancelot - but this quickly vanished after the part when they met Guinevere). I've heard before that the series is a bit different from the book but I'm looking forward to seeing it very much anyway :). The music is mesmerizing and I really like Julianna Margulies so I'm sure I'll love it :D.

And I adore BBC's Pride and Prejudice! I've only seen it this year but Colin Firth is definitely my Mr Darcy too. I even refuse to watch the newer, American version now, lol.

Ooh you're reading the book?! :D Yay! It's one of my favorites....and yeah, the A/Mor is irresistible, they way it's written, portrayed as Arthur never being able to get over Morgaine...love it! <333 Have you finished it yet? I hope you still like the miniseries after reading the book, I think I'm glad I saw the miniseries first, because I feel it helped me like it better. And yeah, Uther/Igraine is more romantic in the series (in the miniseries perhaps, even), and I feel so sorry for Morgaine, always wanting Lancelot, but unable to have him. And the music is beautiful, where did you hear it? :)
Iz: ArMor 2amaranthine3 on September 8th, 2010 12:22 pm (UTC)
Yes, I am :D. But I'm reading it very slowly and carefully on purpose, not to miss any detail (which is very easy when a book is that big ^^). I love it how even after marrying Gwenhwyfar he can't stop thinking about Morgaine <3. And I'm sure that I will like the miniseries vene though I've heard that it's a bit different - but it must have been very hard to create the series from almost 1000 pages of the book! I really can't wait to watch it :D. As for the music, we have this website here http://chomikuj.pl/ where people can create folders, like on hard disc and upload their files, and when you upload for example songs other people can listen to them online. I was very lucky because I found the whole soundtrack there and I could listen to it :). Only recently this person locked his/her folders private so now I listen to some of the songs on YouTube. But I can never get tired of this music, it's so beautiful! <3
