Supernatural Catch-up + Supernatural: The Musical
First off, Happy May Day everyone, or Beltane! ;)  And Happy Borgias Day...anyway, I have a bunch of shows to post about as I've been catching up, but I think I'll start with Supernatural...

SN 6x17:

Okay first off, I have to say that as a big Titanic fan (it's one of my fave movies ever) I definitely appreciated that aspect of the episode and all the references and use of  "My Heart Will Go On," lol--though I think I officially hate Balthazar even more for dissing it so much, HDU! ;) (Raffi is judging him even HARDER now...:p).  I was glad when Dean sort of defended it at the end, lol, I wonder now what the cast really thinks of the movie?   I loved the little AU though that resulted from that one change, AUs are one of my favorite fictional devices, and the surprise!one (thanks to remaining unspoiled) was really interesting!  (It kind of reminded me of the Surprise!AU in the beginning of Animorphs' Megamorphs 3, the way everything seems normal at first but then different and confusing things begin to crop up until the AU is revealed--and the alleged reason is also similar, since in Animorphs Visser 4 tried to make the English lose the Battle of Agincourt because he was sick of his host quoting Henry V all the time! :p).  It was great to have Ellen back, and I must say, I'd never seen the shipping potential with Bobby before but it works!  Did Ben Edlund write this though, with all the gore?! O_o  Ugh...I'm also not sure I like the personification of Fate as a superficial bitchy blonde...:/

And Cas...oh Cas! :(  What are you doing, bb?  Not really happy with where his story is going right now, I sure hope he sees the error of his ways and redeems himself by the end of the season.  What happened to loving humanity and God's creations and all that? :s  You are becoming no better than Raphael, really. *sigh*  Oh well, at least it's clear he still cares for the boys, telling them that "I'm trying to save the [friends] I have" and scrapping his plans to protect them! <33  Glad he hasn't been that dehumanized yet...

Also loved how easy the brothers were with one another, arguing about who would talk to Bobby and rock-paper-scissors-ing over it!  They almost seem back to season 1 comfortable with each other, I hope the angst is finally over for good!

Favorite quotes:

-"We can't just sit here and watch him poop out his liver..."

-"Did your grandmother piss off a gypsy?" (I loved how each time the camera zoomed in on the guy's increasingly outraged face!)

-"Dude, dude, rule #1: No Kutcher references!"

-"You have me confused with the other angel, you know the one in the dirty trenchcoat who's in love with you?"

-"Yeah Dean, I'm pretty sure 6 seconds is too soon..." LOL

-"the Titanic didn't sink..." "Yeah, because Balthazar had a hate-on for Billy Zane!" LMAO forever!

-"Besides, Titanic didn't suck THAT bad!"

SN 6x18:

I was a little skeptical about this epp, but I think it did make sense in the context of the show (forgot about the angelic time-traveling thing!) and it was interesting to meet Colt and Dean was just so adorkable and nerdy and it was just a lot of fun while advancing the plot at the same time! (Although seems too convenient/simple as far as a way to kill the Mother).  Though not as happy with the Cas storyline, more shadiness and kind of side-eyeing the show for immediately killing off the first named female angel since Anna (not counting Raphaella) in one epp, come on now...:s  Though she was really annoying too...*sigh*  Interesting though, I mean, if she was his lieutenant, and didn't know anything about what he was doing...

Random Commentary:

"Star Trek 4, save the whales?": Hey, that's the Star Trek movie I've seen!!  Or at least, I vaguely remember ST people singing to whales on our TV when my parents were watching it way back when, I think we might own that one on VHS or something.

"Lost to me" awww, again, he might be morally compromised, but it does seem like Cas still cares about his boys! <33

"Is it customary to wear a blanket?" LOLOL classic Cas line! :p

Lol, Dean is SUCH a nerd, love it...but aww, his serape didn't pan out!

"That poor horse" *dies*

OMG Cas! :o  Oops...

Unf, Dean in a trenchcoat now, he and Cas should wear them together, form a club. ;)

This is kind of like Rango, no, with the newcomer suddenly being Sherriff?

As if you could out-run me!

Lol "giant from the future"

"I need you to let me touch it"

"Slash-sherriff!" Aw Dean is so proud of being Sherriff!  For once the authority figure...:p

Lol, way to reference your old show Jim Beaver, clever! ;)

SN 6x19:

Great epp, although side-eyeing the show so hard for bringing back an old female guest star like Lenore and then KILLING HER within like ten minutes...:(  Gee, god forbid we leave any loose female characters left alive! *rolleyes*  Was great to see Tara Amber Benson back again though, however briefly...did LOVE Dean naming the hybrids though "Jefferson Starships," more adorkable nerdiness, lol forever! :D

I TOTALLY noticed that the waitress was Eve, when she spoke I recognized her voice, so I was glad to see it was so in the end. ;)  She was so awesome though, both in the old host and especially in Samantha Smith, aka Mary--amazing how often this actress has returned despite being dead since the Pilot, every season except for 3!  Had no idea she'd be showing up, such a great surprise--again, so much more fun when I'm not following any spoilers or seeing any promos!  I'm so glad that unlike with Lilith, both actresses managed to convey the same, recognizable personality.  And her explanation was interesting and not what I expected, she is definitely an interesting villain and I hope she isn't truly gone for good.  I also thought Ryan looked sketchy, sad to see I was right there...:(

And then there's Cas...*sigh*  I can't say I was really shocked about his working with Crowley, since I had read galathea positing this theory earlier, but I was kind of sad to see he's been kind of an antagonist this season without the brothers realizing it...;_;  It does neatly tie the two main story arcs though, the civil war in Heaven and the increase in monster activity and Crowley's search for purgatory, and everything really, if all along Cas has been getting Crowley to search for a source of souls to fuel his war against Raphael and this in turn caused Eve to start increasing monster activity--I had faith in the writers that they'd manage to connect the two somehow, and it seems they have!  But I hope Cas can redeem himself/see the error of his ways...I'm nervous about the fallout when Dean realizes what Cas has been keeping from them (I wonder if while they're at it they might throw in the "letting Sam out" thing as well, since they're dealing with betrayal angst anyway?).  Though it will make "Nobody's Side" from Chess a relevant song for SN/Dean once more! ;)  (I envisioned it for when he found out about letting Sam out, but since that never happened...but now!).  Oh Cas...I did still mostly enjoy him in this episode though, it was nice seeing him without mojo again (Dean was so mean! ;_;  Loved Sam being all "you hurt his feelings!" though, and sitting next to him in the booth once again...;))  Again, with his "Dean!" at Dean getting bitten (thank god Cas could fix that!) he showed he still cares about them at least, even if he find them misguided/frustrating (lol forever at his biting dry sarcasm to Bobby: "you don't know that...they might find more wayward orphans along the way."  ).  I also did enjoy his sexy BAMFness when the moment the Mother dropped dead (or fake!dead?) he regained his powers and was able to smite all the monsters in white gloweyness!  "Smitey McSmitheron" indeed...:p  Yeah, I still love Cas, even if I'm disappointed in him right now...on the other hand he is showing himself to be a lot more important than he seemed initially this season!

ALSO, can I just say how happy I am to see Crowley is not actually dead?! :D  I love/enjoy his character so much, and was so sad when he "died" mid-season, and I didn't realize he was coming back, so that was an awesome surprise!  And since I watched it right after the most recent DW epp, it made for a nice little Mark Sheppard Double Feature as well! ;)

Oh and since I have it on the brain right now (and have meant to post this for aeons), might as well put it here--basically I've realized that my second-favorite musical ever, Chess, could be "Supernatural: The Musical" because several of the songs can be related to the show, IMO! :p

Dean and Sam's Fight in the End of Season 4: "Florence Quits"

[Together]

Who'd ever think it?
Such a squalid little ending
Watching you descending
Just as far as you can go
I'm learning things I didn't want to know
Who'd ever guess it?
This would be the situation --
One more observation --
How'd we ever get this far
Before you showed me what you really are?

[Sam]

You'll be lost without me
To abuse like you're used to

[Dean]

Go away! Just get out! Be someone else's parasite!

Dean finds out about Cas's Betrayals/is Disillusioned with the Angels: "Nobody's Side"

(start around 1:50)

What's going on around me
Is barely making sense
I need some explanations fast
I see my present partner
In the imperfect tense
And I don't see how we can last
I feel I need a change of cast
Maybe I'm on nobody's side.

And when he gives me reasons
To justify each move
They're getting harder to believe
I know this can't continue...

Everybody's playing the game
But nobody's rules are the same
Nobody's on nobody's side
Better learn to go it alone
Recognize you're out on your own
Nobody's on nobody's side.

Never take a stranger's advice
Never let a friend fool you twice
Nobody's on nobody's side
Never be the first to believe
Never be the last to deceive
Nobody's on nobody's side

Lucifer's Sob Song: "Pity the Child"

Pity the child who has ambition
Knows what he wants to do
Knows that he'll never fit the system
Others expect him to

Oh and this could be Dean talking to Eve in this episode, refusing to work for/with her! "The Deal (No Deal)"

There's no deal!

Okay so 4 songs so far, but given the musical is about something completely different I still find it pretty funny that there would be that many! :)

Anyone else know/love this musical?  I've loved it since my high school put it on....

Okay sent you a PM, let me know if it doesn't work! :) Yeah luckily when I was in the production at my school the director gave everyone (or certain people who then made further copies) the soundtrack to listen to for practice and whatnot, so I have it all for free, although only some of the tracks (like the Nobody one) are with Ellen Paige and such, some of the others are with other singers from other productions (which I actually prefer in some cases, like the Danish 2001-2003 production or something).

Ah thanks hun just got it and everything! :D
Oh that's cool! I've never seen the whole production just bits and a fair few songs.

Sweet! :) And yeah, well the thing about the musical is that since it comes from a concept album originally, every production is different, some have different endings, etc, it's all kind of ambiguous! ;) It's really good though, very interesting and emotional and compelling, IMO...I'd love to see it again! It was playing at a theater in my area last summer, but I couldn't find someone to go with and it required a car to get to the place, unfortunately...:/

ah I see :) I never keep up with what's on in the theatre and I should!
