This is a Doctor Who Post....(Of Classic, RTD, and Moffat Flavors)
The other day I caught "The Doctor's Wife" re-running on BBCA and realized that I never really posted my thoughts on the rest of s6a after the premiere--and with the show coming back in less than a week (!), I figure I should do that sooner rather than later...

First off, "The Doctor's Wife" was amazing and by far the best of the season, maybe even the Moffat era.  It felt a lot like RTD!Who, with all the emotions and exploring the Doctor's character more in-depth, plus you know, the RT(AR)DIS console room I've missed so! ;)  I also just loved the celebration of the show mythos, exploring this central but often overlooked beautiful relationship between the Doctor and his beloved bb TARDIS!  What a neat, wonderful concept, I'd love to see this in SN with the Impala come to life in "Dean's Wife"! :p  And I loved all the callbacks to the Time War and actually seeing Eleven angst a bit, and the Rory/Amy bits were great too, I loved seeing again some emotion from Amy over Rory and shippiness there--the whole mind games were just really interesting and well done, poor Fake!Rory though...:(  And yeesh was House scary, I thought his voice sounded just like the 456 in COE, so I was extra creeped-out.  I just hope though that the TARDIS managed to put back the coral console room into the archive, it'd break my heart for that to be gone forever!  In short, Neil Gaiman needs to write more epps of DW, I think he has a really good handle on it...

As for the rest of the season...meh, IDK.  I have to say, I did enjoy this season more than last in that I actually grew to like all the characters more--especially Amy, who I do now love, especially now that they've toned her down with her rewritten past, and even River as they fleshed her out a little so she wasn't just purely a plot device/clever cipher as much.  Though wow was her "reveal" pretty lame and anticlimactic, I mean anyone who had read any theories had seen the one that she was Amy and Rory's baby (even though it makes no sense), so that hardly wowed me....though it was nice to see that she knows the Doctor's name because she can read Gallifreyan off his crib, not because he told her because she's ~extra special to him/his wife or whatever.  Even though i still don't think her being part Time Lord and able to read Gallifreyan really makes sense...I agree with those though that think they should have made the end of the Flesh two-parter the end of season 6a, because the reveal that Amy was not actually there but only a ganger was actually mind-blowing and exciting, unliek the River reveal.

The Flesh epps were not my faves, though they did actually help me understand Cloen (and how he could be the same person as The Doctor, but separate) a lot better, so yay for that!  (Still struggling with the end of JE even now, so every bit of help is much appreciated).  The mermaid epp was boring, though it had some really snappy and funny lines by Eleven.  They really need to stop killing Rory now though, JS, he's giving Sam and Dean a run for their money in that department...;)  And I don't even remember what episode 3 was about....O_o

I'm apprehensive about the storyline in the second half though, because I really want to see Amy and Rory raising their baby, and I don't know how they can do that....nor do I have faith that Moffat can actually resolve everything sensically.  I also really hope that Amy and Rory exit this season, go on and settle down, because I think it's time to move on and experience some new companions for Eleven to interact with.  I know that Gillian said she's going to be in s7, but I hope it's just a la Martha, you know, coming on to visit in spots.  I don't want to say goodbye to Amy and Rory forever...

NGL though, the thing I'm most excited for next season though is the reports that we'll glimpse Rose and Martha and Donna in the s6b premiere!!! :D  You know, as if those people actually existed!  I died when we saw the old console room, I can't imagine how I'll react seeing my old favorite companions, hope it's well done and that we'll actually be able to see them without having to resort to screencaps (unlike in "The Lodger").  So curious about that....

I've also been recently doing some Classic Who watching in an attempt to check out other Doctors...

I have to say I was rather disappointed by The Five Doctors, I had heard it was so good, but I mostly just found it lame and cheesy and boring, even though it was interesting to see so many Doctors at once, and I did love seeing Sarah Jane again (and K9!), even if it made me sob inside....I feel I perhaps would have appreciated it all more had I you know, actually known who most of these people were...

Genesis of the Daleks, on the other hand, has indeed lived up to the hype so far, and not disappointed!  I just find the plot so interesting since it actually gives the backstory of something I *am* familiar with, Davros and the creation of the Daleks, which is fascinating to see, knowing what is coming later (especially where Davros is concerned)....the whole thing has an air of tragic inevitability and doom, which I love, and I like seeing the original peoples on Skaro.  What can I say, I love prequels!  (Even 2/3 of the SW ones, DEAL WITH IT).  And Sarah Jane is in it being a BAMF, and I'm enjoying Four ("NO TEA?!" lol), especially since I saw/met Tom Baker in person that one time and it was nice to actually see him playing the role more!

And over the summer I've done a fair bit of RTD!NuWho rewatching as well, now that I have been happily reunited with all my s1-4 DVDs, including introducing a half-British RL friend to her own culture the show! ;)  I've definitely noticed some new things, but mostly just feel all nostalgic for the good old days when I watch the epps; for me s1-4 is and always will be the Doctor Who that I truly love and enjoy most...

First off, I have to say, you kind of view all the destruction of the shops and fires and chaos in "Rose" a little differently after the recent London Riots, I must say! O_o I also noticed this time in "Bad Wolf" how we get a scene of The Doctor and Jack seeing Rose's jacket draped over a coral bit in The TARDIS and angsting over it while they think Rose is dead, which is so reminiscent of Ten seeing Rose's jacket in "The Runaway Bride" (which I also rewatched)! Darn Rose, always leaving her jacket around the TARDIS to provoke angst! ;)

Also lol poor Jack only ever gets hugged by the Doctor when it's in excitement about Rose still being alive, sucker! :p And man do the Doctor's eyes look completely dead and hollow when Nine looks at Rose's supposed ashes, I honestly do think he can give Ten a run for his money in that department...(since I saw a comparison done on this recently).

I also rewatched "The Impossible Planet"/"The Satan Pit" since I hear so much love for them and really disliked them the first time around, and while I still do dislike the general plot, I did come to appreciate these epps a lot more (and they are super!shippy!). "The Girl in the Fireplace" is just the WORST though, even with all my love for Sophia Myles! :/

Finally, looking at the DVD cases for s1-2 I noticed where the Doctor's hands were each time, and it made me LOL! :D

Yeah you're just ~protecting her, sure, Doctor! ;) Lol they're almost in the exact same positions in each of these promos...

Speaking of DW, I also recently discovered the most amazing thing ever: SUPERWHO, the fandom marriage of Supernatural and Doctor Who on Tumblr! <333

I love it so much, it's like my two favorite shows combined as one! :DDDD (And some of these mannippers have mad talent!)

Also speaking of epic, amazing things produced by fandom, there is now a game in which you make Harry/Hermione kiss, as much as possible! :p I can't even, lol, my ship has a kissing game, it's the best thing ever, I'm already addicted (plus it's pretty/hot to watch!).

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who hasn't enjoyed this season much. I was incredibly bored with it, except for 6x01 and 6x02, and I just stopped caring by the time the two-part finale aired. I hated the Flesh eps, and the Siren ep...pretty much all of them except for 6x01, 6x02 and The Doctor's Wife. I still don't care much. I didn't even know the show was coming back next weekend until this past weekend. That's how much I've detached from it and the fandom. I'm actually opposite of you - I enjoyed S5 much, much more than this one, and that's saying a lot since I don't like S5 that much. And, I actually disliked Amy more this season than last. It's funny that we're on opposite sides over those two things LOL It might be that I still don't like River that much, even now, knowing who she really is (like you said - LAME), and I'm afraid that since Karen and Arthur are only going to be around sparingly in S7, that River is going to be the new companion. If that happens, I might just flat out start hating the show. Enough is enough of her LOL

Eleven still hasn't grown on me much. When I think about what I love about DW, it's always about the Nine/Ten eras, and never Eleven's. You know how some people say Supernatural ended at S5 for them? That's kind of how I feel about DW. Eleven's era is just so different compared to the others and I've never loved anything about it like I did with the others. I love Matt, and Karen, and Arthur, so it's not them. It's Moffat's writing, and the way the show is shot now. It drives me insane that Moffat acts like none of the past characters - like Rose, Martha, Jack, Donna, etc. never existed for Eleven, like he's a whole different person. Eleven should STILL have memories and miss all of those people, except he doesn't, and that's not how DW works.

See, I guess it's just that well, I really didn't like s5 much either, so I feel like it's all kind of blah, but points for at least enjoying/connecting with characters more? O_o And since it's only half a season so far it's harder to judge, I mean I only really liked about 3-4 epps of s5 anyway, but spread out....I guess with Amy and River it's just they're toned down a lot more, River especially is more vulnerable and I even felt sorry for her for two seconds with the kiss thing (instead of just going, "Ewww 11/Rover kiss, DNW!" lol). I just didn't really get Amy much in s5, and I find her more likeable this season (and on a superficial level I totally like her hair better now! ;)).

I'm afraid that since Karen and Arthur are only going to be around sparingly in S7, that River is going to be the new companion. If that happens, I might just flat out start hating the show. Enough is enough of her LOL

Has there been confirmation that Karen and Arthur are only going to be around sparingly then? :s I thought that they hadn't said either way yet...and I wouldn't necessarily think River is the only alternative, I have a feeling (or maybe just a desperate hope?) that her storyline will be wrapped by by the end of this season...I can't imagine they could get Kingston full time anyway. I sure hope not...I mean, we need new companions for 11 to interact with, and River is not new! >:(

MTE on all of this, wells said! (We at least agree 100% on this! ;)). The last bit is partly why I';m so excited about the rumors of Rose, Donna, and Martha appearing however briefly in the next epp, acknowledging they did exist! Because it was such a big break...and yes, for me when I think of DW love, I always think of s1-4 NuWho. Even though 11 has grown on me a little, but maybe it's more the actors...

And yeah I get the SPN comparison, though at the same time, people, SPN has NOT changed nearly as much, it's still the same show at heart, and references the past often! :/ I mean, the show has changed a lot, which I think is a good thing (keeps things interesting), but not so drastically as on Who, and it's still good. I was actually talking to someone about this at lunch, how in my Fandom Year in Review Meme I was all "ooh I really love DW, maybe in the next year it will replace SPN as my favorite show/fandom/most enthusiastic love!"--but then, in the end, no, because the part of DW I love most (and on par with SPN) is already dead and gone, whereas SPN still has a lot of the things I love going for it (haters gonna hate).

A Doctor Who Post! Oh yay, I forgot you watched this. Quite a remarkable thing for me to forget, given your journal layout & moodtheme!

I agree with you about the rest of the season being meh. I like Rory a whole lot more but I liked Amy and Eleven from the beginning. I didn't particularly like the flesh episodes, except for the part where there were two doctors (I loved that, naturally <3) but I didn't think the flesh avatar thing was a big reveal, mainly because it made no sense.

Nonsensical is the theme with Doctor Who at the moment. I loved the River reveal because I don't read theories and possibly am not that clever and was pretty shocked, not gonna lie.

it was nice to see that she knows the Doctor's name because she can read Gallifreyan off his crib, not because he told her because she's ~extra special to him/his wife or whatever.

HAHA. Lol spiteful. Not a big Doctor/River shipper? :P

Yeah I didn't like Siren ep much either... But I do appreciate the Doctor's lines so... :D

ROSE AND MARTHA AND DONNA?! SERIOUSLY???

Lol yep of course I watch it! ;)

IDK, it made sense enough to me, certainly as far as Moffat plots go, lol (re: almost none of them actually make any sense!)...but yes, the Two Elevens was fab (and make that "Cloning myself was so 2010" macro from Tumblr valid!), I felt so bad for 11 when Amy was side-eyeing him and not treating him like a real person...

Heh, I don't go out of my way to read theories either, but in people's post reactions I'd read this...I was curious though, how did this reveal make you ship Doctor/River more than before? O_o I remembered you saying that...

HAHA. Lol spiteful. Not a big Doctor/River shipper? :P

Um, no! ;) Or also just didn't want her to be his wife, b/c how lame is that? I just, I don't like a ship that happens because someone comes from the future and tells you it has to...*glares at Simon/Alisha from Misfits as well*

ROSE AND MARTHA AND DONNA?! SERIOUSLY???

APPARENTLY, YES!!! :DDD Exciting, no?

Moffat plots = ugh.

Also, since I'm on my tumblr dashboard now, and I know you like Spanish (:P), I guess a similiar GIF is in order:

...and another:

You know David Tennant's wife's maiden name is Moffett? Another thing I learnt on my tumblr dashboard.

Yeah, what made no sense for me was how Amy could have been a flesh avatar, because unlike the whole 'cracks in time' thing from the previous season, the flesh avatar thing was sprung up on us half way through the season, not very over-arching or Moffat-esque. Even my two favourite eps of this series (1&2) MADE NO SENSE. HOW DID HE VANQUISH THEM?! HOW?!?!

I am not a big Doctor/River shipper. I do ship them. I also ship Amy/Eleven (although WAY less this season) and Amy/Rory. But I don't go crazy over them like I do with my TVD ships. TVD is literally the only fandom I get like that...promise! But yeah - I wouldn't go out on a limb for Doctor/River, although overall I'd say that after the reveal I ship them ~a little~ more...

Haha I loved Simon and Alisha. I liked that she fell in love with him, quite convincingly, in S2 after a whole season of complete indifference towards him.

YES. VERY EXCITING. ROSE AND MARTHA AND DONNA. LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH <3
Especially Martha, she doesn't get enough love :'(

Heh, they are great, I also love these ones:

Sometimes fandom can be really awesome...

You should totally watch Doctor Who though, it is a great show, and the way I felt while I was marathoning it (like it was a drug and all I could think of was taking my next hit hit watching more epps) is just what I felt while marathoning through SPN for the first time...

Also:

(Though apparently not big enough for Gigantor, as he admitted at BosCon! :p)

Oh that's right, you're British so watching the DW Christmas specials is like a cultural tradition over there or something, no? :p (This year since they aired it in the US on Christmas as well I tried to emulate that tradition, but my family didn't cooperate much, talking nonstop in the room...;)).

I'll be really interested to see how everything with this new reveal (i.e. River Song as Melody Pond) is integrated with the rest of the series... I'm still vaguely withholding judgement, but I just feel like there's lots of loose ends to tie up... :o/

Have you seen last Saturday's premiere yet? O_o Yeah, I don't really trust that many loose ends are going to be tied up, Moffat doesn't seem to really care/know how to plot arcs tightly.../sigh

Also: that H/Hr game is made of so much win, ha ha! :DDD
