The Boys are Back! Supernatural s7 Premiere Reaction Post
I know I'm a bit late to the game (this weekend was really busy with the National Book Festival going on Sat/Sun--more on that later), but I have to take a moment to talk about how effing AMAZING that Supernatural s7 premiere was, and how much it fulfilled almost all my dreams and more....<3__<3

So first off, REMEMBER THAT TIME SAM SAVED CAS WITH THE POWER OF LOVE?!?! :DDD ♥

This is my new refrain/catchphrase I think, lol...:p I'm just on such a *~SASSY~* high right now, this whole episode just slayed and delighted me and made me squee and adsjklfh sooo hard, I can't even...it's still making me do so! ;) Let's just say I'm one happy Sassiteer, and that all the heartbreak of what went down between Cas and Sam in the finale has been healed, BECAUSE IN SPITE OF EVERYTHING, SAM STILL LOVED AND BELIEVED IN CAS AND TRIED TO REACH OUT TO HIM AND IT WORKED! The whole prayer scene just...gah, I love you so much Sam, this episode really confirmed my new allegiance as a Sam!girl. :)

"Hey Castiel. Maybe this is pointless...look, I don’t know if any part of you even cares, but uh, I still think you’re one of us. Deep down and way way way of the reservation. But...look we still have till dawn to stop this. Let us help. Please."  *sobs*

I mean, here I'd been fantasizing about Sam playing the Xander to Cas's Dark!Willow and saving him, AND THEN IT ACTUALLY PRETTY MUCH HAPPENED!! :D \o/ I still can't believe you, thank you Sera for fulfilling my wildest dreams on that front...I mean, gah, this scene:

After all the stuff last season, especially at the end of s6, it was so nice to see Cas responding to Sam's prayer. :)  I read this on Tumblr and I thought it was really beautiful and well said:

Castiel might never have been able to fully come back to himself and humble himself enough to do this if Sam hadn’t given him someone to return to, if he hadn’t heard Sam’s call and been able to cling to that---Sam’s voice called him home. It’s so beautiful that I can’t stand it.

AND THEN THIS SCENE THAT MADE ME REALLY EXPLODE:

I'll be right beside you...

Sam still didn't give Cas that hug, but this was close enough...;) I love the way Cas's eyes just follow Sam as he leaves, like "Don't leave meeee," he looks so helpless and pathetic here...:(

Even in the beginning when Cas was Godstiel, I loved how Sam was still trying to reach out to Cas and looked so hurt when Cas was all "I HAVE NOTHING MORE TO SAY TO YOU, YOU TOTALLY HURT MY FEELINGS WHEN YOU STABBED ME IN THE BACK! *sniff*" *pets Sam* And I loved even more that Sam EXPLICITLY mentioned the connection/parallels between his arc in s4 and Cas' in s6 that I've wanted to see addressed on the show since 6x20, I really hope though that Real!Cas and Sam still have a chance at a heart-to-heart about this subject later in the season...Cas also still needs to apologize directly to Sam for the wall thing anyway!

When I was driving back home after seeing the epp I heard "Don't Stop Believing" on the radio and of course though of Sam, since he didn't stop believing...NEW THEME SONG

Because yes, Real!Cas is DEFINITELY still in there (don't stop believing!), I refuse to believe otherwise, and it's just a matter of how long we'll have with him in the end. *crosses fingers* This was definitely a stressful episode on that front I will say, I remembered half-way through the episode that I had forgotten to change my default icon to the Cas Prayer Circle one, and promptly got my phone out to make the change, since I am superstitious like that...:p I was watching the episode with unstoppablei and raygunronica (the latter of whom I met for the first time! We all ate pizza in honor of death and I bought a (pumpkin) pie in honor of Dean, it was a party! :D I even wore my trenchcoat that day in honor of Cas and the Samulet I picked up at BosCon in honor of Sam, so all the bases were covered, lol), and unstoppablei and I were all "NOOOO CASSSS NOOOOO BB! YOUR FAAAACE NOOOO OMGGGGG AHHHH!" a lot of the time, especially at the end...:p Oh the writers playing with our emotions.

I have to say, I was REALLY surprised they finished up this Godstiel business so quickly, I thought Cas would be de-souled next epp, but then I didn't see the Leviathan twist coming...it was definitely SO good to see Real!Cas again, and feeling remorse and apologizing and such, however briefly, I KNEW this would happen, like Sam here I had faith...even if I am kind of worried about the Leviathan thing. BUT Leviacas is pretty hilarious/awesome too, you could tell Misha was having a ball there and playing at least 75% himself, lol, this expression was my favorite/the best new gif:

I am going to enjoy Crazy!Misha for the time being, I think he has potential and could be very funny...though will be lighting a candle for Real!Cas too, so to speak! BUT I'm just really glad that it's not actually CAS who will be the Big Bad this season, this is much better...

So much else though, how about the fact that freaking MARKSHA is back and playing the best mind games ever?! :D I had seen the tidbit on Twitter about him filming for s7, but I had no idea he'd be major enough that he'd even be in multiple episodes, and gah so far this storyline looks awesome...poor Sam, always having the most horrible hallucinations! :/ But man have I missed Lucifer, and Marksha, so I enjoyed his scenes to the max and can't wait for next week. :D The other Mark, Mark Sheppard (I was squeeing so hard when I saw both their names in the opening credits!), was equally fabulous as always, seriously, I wish he could live forever, because he always has the best lines and is too funny and awesome. "You do want to conspire, yes?" NEVER CHANGE, BB! And then Death being a BAMF and loving his greasy food as always, Dean knows him so well in that regard at least, even though I can't believe he tried to bind Death given that asking nicely has always worked before, and knowing how much Death hates that...(plus you know, how last time the binding took a whole town of dead people to do, but oh well it wouldn't be the first time SN had a plot hole). Basically this episode was chock full of awesome characters/guest stars, ON TOP of everything else, contributing to how full of win the episode was overall!

Oh and Cas smiting the Westboro Church and Fake!Michele Bachmann was pretty hilarious/awesome, not to mention that stained glass window...in all Godstiel wasn't sooo bad! :p I did feel bad for him though when he was talking about his Daddy issues (lol, this show) all "Why won't they understaaaaaand meeee I'm trying to be good I aaammmmm", oh bb....*pats*

ANYWAY, I am SO excited for the rest of season 7, haters gonna hate! And even better, I'm seeing a lot of positive reactions and excitement in fandom from other people, including a lot of s6 haters/skeptics, which makes my heart even gladder. In short, EVERYTHING IS SASSY BEAUTIFUL AND EVERYTHING HURTS!  And I think that

(Oh and this recap of the epp is really hilarious and the best! :p)

I need to rewatch this episode again, as well as catch up on TVD, DW, and Downton Abbey, since I missed all of those....the last week of Hellatus this past week was really hellishly busy, as I'll explain in another post later, but the short of it is that I got really behind on comments and posts, but I am trying to catch up!

The whole town of people wasn't to bind him it was to raise him.

And even better, I'm seeing a lot of positive reactions and excitement in fandom from other people, including a lot of s6 haters/skeptics, which makes my heart even gladder.

And this yes this. I think this has been the best part of it for me so far.

But yes everything that you said.

EVERYTHING.

Eh, but from the epps where we actually talk with Death he gives the impression that he's pretty much always been around walking the earth and deciding who dies, way before Lucifer "raised" him in 5x10, and rewatching the epp where Lucifer is all, "These horsemen are so demanding...:/", IDK it just seemed to me like the logical explanation was that Death is always around, but the ritual was mainly to bind him. *shrug*

*SASSY HIGH-FIVE*

Maybe because of who it was Death wanted more proof or something?

IDK IDK, but whatever, it's not the worst plot hole on the show, it could be they found a different spell or something...that spell they use to summon demons and angels though still is kind of WTF when it's like, "Well that would have been useful during ALL OF SEASON ONE AND TWO" lol. And you know, the whole ever present "how do they find the nicest and hippest motels ever everywhere they go, in the middle of fuck nowhere?" thing...:p

queen_insanequeen_insane on September 26th, 2011 03:32 am (UTC)
lol gurl those motels are not supposed to be nice. They are supposed to be cheep and silly and not good koala-tea
sherrilina: Dean Smilie (Supernatural)sherrilina on September 26th, 2011 03:39 am (UTC)
Well clearly the set people have never been in a motel then, because real motels do not have such tasteful decorative themes and knicknacks, they are all plain and boring and simple...;) If they were cheap they wouldn't bother with fancy partitions and wallpaper, etc...:p

I have spent a lot of time in motels....

OMG yaaay, glad to hear it! :D Lol I just find it funny that the subject of ~SASSY~ came up before the epp and someone (I forget which of you) was saying that they didn't get the whole Sassy thing, and THEN THE EPISODE HAPPENED! :p \o/ Nice icon, btw, it's even more overly ~SASSY~ than my own, lol...

God I still need to rewatch it myself though, this week so far has been as crazy as last week!

Also, it was nice meeting you.:)

It was nice meeting you too at last, hope to do so again soon! :)

lol it is weird, but thoroughly entertaining to look back on the episode from your very SASSY-coloured point of view! makes me wonder if you find all my dean/cas-shaped half-delusional ramblings equally amusing.... :P

i really really adored the scene where Sam prayed to Cas and got him to come back and ask for help, i might have cried a little too. because Cas needed someone to do that for him, and Sam was the only one who believed.

Sam EXPLICITLY mentioned the connection/parallels between his arc in s4 and Cas' in s6 that I've wanted to see addressed on the show since 6x20

this was one of my most favourite things about this episode. i was heartbroken at the way Sam so easily believed that Cas had turned evil in the last few episodes of S6, at one point even wondering if Cas brought him back soulless on purpose. :( i hope we get a little heart to heart where they discuss about all this, later in the season. but i'm not holding my breath, Cas might not be coming back for that long, or at all.

and it's sad that whatever little positive reaction the premiere generated in me, was ruined by Ben's episode. such a shame, really.

Hiii bb!

Lol, thanks? :p Glad to be ~entertaining you, lol, but I mean, you can't blame me, right?! ;)

Yesss I mean obviously Cas was already having doubts about keeping the souls and such, but I do think that Sam's olive branch/offer of help made a difference for Cas as well...

this was one of my most favourite things about this episode. i was heartbroken at the way Sam so easily believed that Cas had turned evil in the last few episodes of S6, at one point even wondering if Cas brought him back soulless on purpose. :(

I was a bit heartbroken as well at that, but at the same time, I feel that it wasn't necessarily all bad, because I mean, Sam was right about Cas lying about Crowley at least, he knew Cas better in that instance, probably recognizing his past self sneaking around with Ruby in him. And I could see why he might for a moment wonder about the soulless thing being on purpose, after the revelation that Cas brought him back (after avoiding him and bald-face lying to him about it for months) and is doing shifty stuff with souls anyway...even before the wall thing, Sam certainly had a bone to pick with Cas, the way he ignored him and lied to him about this, etc. :/

i hope we get a little heart to heart where they discuss about all this, later in the season. but i'm not holding my breath, Cas might not be coming back for that long, or at all.

Yeah, I know it's a long shot, but even a few lines--like if Cas apologizes to Sam and Sam could be like, "It's okay, I've been there too, I know how it can be"--I'd be thrilled...I just hope he comes back! ;_; Ugh, I didn't even have any doubts until that Gamble interview, and now I'm not so sure...still trying to have faith though, like Sam...

and it's sad that whatever little positive reaction the premiere generated in me, was ruined by Ben's episode. such a shame, really.

I'm sorry too bb, that the second epp upset you so much...:( It is pretty ironic though, you loving Gamble's epp more than an Edlund one...

And am I delusional or does this kind of sound like Cas's voice here? :s

hey hey!

not blaming you a bit. i mean i could see and appreciate the ~SASSY~, of course it had to shortcut your brain. :P

i know Sam and Bobby were right about suspecting Cas, and even though it was Dean i wanted it from, it hurt that none of them asked WHY. why Cas was doing what he was, they all jumped on the 'Cas is evil' bandwagon and i expected Sam to at least have some sympathy, having being in a similar position before, himself.

yeah, i just want it to be acknowledged, the show handwaves a lot of things, but if we have to lose Cas for good, i'd like some things to be said out loud.

the irony is not lost on me, lol. i guess Ben is in a weird position too, now... it's Sera's show and there's only so much he can do when the bigger arc of the season has already been decided. :(

i saw people talking about it on tumblr. it sounds like Luci to me, but many hear Cas.

Well I think they realized that he was doing it to fight Raphael, with Eve referencing the power of souls for war machines, etc, and then it's explicitly acknowledged in 6x20, I don't think they were just assuming he was evil now (I mean they said Sam had gone "darkside" before as well in s4, as I recall, also in a case of good intentions gone amuck). Sam did say that he did care for Cas--and "would die for the guy" even if he suspected he was lying about Crowley, so I don't think he was totally dismissing Cas there (and in 6x21 he was giving him the benefit of the doubt over Lisa, so clearly he didn't think Cas was evil, just lying about the Crowley thing). Probably because he recognized the parallels with Ruby, etc.

the irony is not lost on me, lol. i guess Ben is in a weird position too, now... it's Sera's show and there's only so much he can do when the bigger arc of the season has already been decided. :(

True, very true, though obviously he was in charge of how Dean would be written, etc....IDK, IDK, at least the bits beside Cas were pretty good IMO, loved the brother stuff. I do think (and Sera has even said so as well) that the Cas situation is feeding into Dean's truly messed-up and depressed head space and inability to trust anything at the moment...

i saw people talking about it on tumblr. it sounds like Luci to me, but many hear Cas.

Yeah, now after listening to it more and reading other responses I realize it is probably Lucifer, though I still think it sounds a bit like Cas...it's an interesting psychological experiment though! :p
